Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) CEO Jason Brisband has been liaising over the last few months with the charity manager for the Mark Benevolent Fund, which is the charitable fund as part of Mark Masons Hall.
Jason told us “I was introduced to them by Archie from London Wheelchair Rugby club, as they wanted to do a large funding project and chose wheelchair rugby as the focus”.
GBWR have announced that Mark Masons Hall have decided to make up to £50,000 (yes you read that right) available to each GBWR club which can be accessed over the next 4 years. The aim is to support the road to the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics and support clubs to develop and find new players.
The funding can be used for capital expenditures such as wheelchairs, sports kits, vehicles, and facility improvements. Grants will not cover operational costs, travel, or accommodation expenses.
Canterbury Hellfire and other Wheelchair Rugby Clubs will be able to access the fund via application to the Mark Benevolent Fund and applications will be reviewed by GBWR.
The full details of how this process will work, and when the funds will be available will be confirmed at a meeting with GBWR and the team managing the funds shortly after the Paralympics.
Canterbury Hellfire will be investigating getting a newer supply of chairs to develop and grow our squad.
This is an incredible opportunity to make a significant impact on our club and we will keep you updated on our progress.
